Many kids like vivid colors and painting so an entertaining way for them to keep learning about and esteeming nature is through art. For instance, you may show your children photographs of peculiar or bright flowers, animals they find interesting or sceneries that capture their attention, and ask them to paint a representation of any of these images on artwork paper or canvas. They may use paint such as watercolor, tempera or acrylic. Focusing on a picture’s details and creating the art piece takes time so kids may learn more about the characteristics of animals, plants or trees used as subjects, which may bring forth more appreciation towards these. Using photos taken during recent outdoor recreations in which your children participated may be exciting for them as they can recall their experiences. They may even sense a strong personal connection with the animal, plant or scenery selected while its representation is created through art.
We handpicked some pictures taken during our nature exploration outings in the island of Puerto Rico, that show nature’s gifts which kids may like using as subject matter for artworks. Check this article’s photo gallery. Look at the captivating moist green snail shell on a leaf found in Yunque National Forest. Admire the beauty of the vibrant red flower of the maga tree (Thespesia grandiflora), which has been declared as Puerto Rico’s emblematic flower. Stare at the intriguing Muscovy Duck, its lustrous black feathers with blue and green hues as well as its distinctive red caruncle around its eyes and near its nostril. We saw this beautiful duck in Carolina Kids Museum site near a mangrove area. See the fascinating view of huge rock formations, including arches, and the Atlantic Ocean on a coastline area near Cueva del Indio in the Municipality of Arecibo.
Whether your children choose any of the images we have shared or the ones from your albums, you can help organize a new adventure in which brushes and paint ally with nature photography to enable artistic creations by your kids.
